n Schuylkill Haven: The Forest Committee of Schuylkill County will host “Woods in Your Backyard” from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 20 in the Health Wellness Center at Penn State Schuylkill campus. The cost is $15 per person and $25 per couple. It is for people who own property of about 10 acres and would like to take a step toward remediation and enhancement, according to a release. Participants will receive a manual and speakers will focus on landscape planning for recreation and wildlife, using native plants to enhance property, attracting pollinators and managing water runoff. n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area School District is accepting exemption applications for the assessed occupation tax for the 2015-16 school year. Retired persons and housewives with no earned income who have previously filed an application and been approved for exemption need not file again unless their status has changed and they now have earned income, according to a district release. People who are disabled or age 75 or older who have been specifically notified by the district that they are exempt do not have to fill an application. Students 18 years old as of June 3 are responsible for the tax unless exempt by application. Requests for exemption are due no later than March 1. Application forms are available at the district administration building, tax collectors’ offices, the Tamaqua Borough Hall, Tamaqua Public Library and all local post offices and banks.
