Employee charged

for Wal-Mart theft

HOMETOWN — Rush Township police charged a Tamaqua woman with stealing money from Wal-Mart while she was employed there.

Police said Vanessa L. Miller, 28, who was employed at the store since Dec. 2, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, on charges of theft and receiving stolen property and subsequently released on bail.

Police said Miller began taking money from her register drawer on Dec. 9 and continued to do so on 18 other days, stealing a total of $2,422.16 from the store.

DUI program

The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program reported the results of two recent roving DUI patrols.

On Dec. 26, one officer from one department contacted and detained five vehicles and had drivers tested for DUI.

There were no DUI arrests made, but the officer made three traffic arrests and issued four warning notices.

On Jan. 2, one officer from one department conducted a patrol that resulted in five vehicles contacted and detained, and two drivers tested for DUI.

There were no DUI arrests, but the officer made four traffic arrests and issued two warning notices.

None injured in

1-vehicle accident

JONESTOWN — A Lykens woman escaped injury when the 2009 Dodge Caliber she was driving crashed about 4 p.m. Sunday on Goldmine Road in Cold Spring Township, Lebanon County.

State police at Jonestown said Natalie R. Travitz, 18, was driving north when she began to over compensate a left curve, causing her to drive into the southbound lane and then go off of the road and hit an embankment.

The car began to spin, causing the back of the vehicle to hit the embankment before it came to a stop in the southbound lane facing south, police said.

As a result of the crash, Travitz will be cited for driving at an unsafe speed, police said.

Man faces simple

trespass charges

McADOO — A McAdoo man was charged with simple trespass and disorderly conduct by McAdoo police after an incident that occurred about 10:20 p.m. Dec. 31 on South Madison Street.

Police said Robert Kondash will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police said officers were called to the area and told by a resident that Kondash was parked outside his home, yelling at him saying, “Wait when I ain’t drunk” and then drove off.

The resident reported this was an ongoing issue with Kondash because he and his wife are going through a divorce and she was staying with him, police said.

Police said officers were called back to the area later and learned from the property owner that Kondash was trespassing and again yelling before returning to his 3 S. Madison St. home.
