A Williamstown man will spend a short time behind bars after being sentenced Monday in Schuylkill County Court on driving under the influence and two summary traffic charges.
Matthew D. Artz, 43, must serve 10 days in prison, 40 days on house arrest with electronic monitoring, 40 days on strict supervision and three months on probation under the terms of Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin’s sentence.
Dolbin also sentenced Artz to pay costs, $800 in fines, $100 to the Substance Abuse Education Fund, $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and $60 restitution to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, and perform 20 hours community service.
Artz pleaded guilty on Nov. 13, 2015, to DUI, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving. State police at Schuylkill Haven alleged he was DUI on Dec. 4, 2014, in Reilly Township.
“He took responsibility for what he did,” Richard S. Roberts Jr., Harrisburg, Artz’s lawyer, said of his client.
Also on Monday, Dolbin revoked the parole of Steven L. Treece, 26, of Lancaster, and returned him to prison.
Dolbin revoked Treece’s parole after the defendant admitted violating it by failing to report to his supervising officer, committing another crime, using drugs and not performing community service. Treece must remain in prison until at least March 1, and could remain there until Dec. 31, under the terms of Dolbin’s order.
“You bombed out. You violated that agreement. There have to be consequences,” Dolbin told a weeping Treece, who was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs and leg shackles.
Treece pleaded guilty on Feb. 18 to possession of a controlled substance, with prosecutors withdrawing charges of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia and a second count of possession of a controlled substance.
At that time, Dolbin sentenced him to serve nine days to 12 months in prison and pay costs, a $100 SAEF payment, a $50 CJEA payment and $239 restitution to the state police crime laboratory in Bethlehem.
Schuylkill County detectives alleged Treece possessed drugs on March 17, 2014, in Pottsville.
