March is American Red Cross Month. Some of the days to observe include daylight-saving time, St. Patrick’s Day, first day of spring and Easter. Spring is just around the corner, hang in there.

Schuylkill County is fortunate to have a large number of elderly residents who call it home. Our older adults are spry and active and you’d be hard-pressed to find a local nonprofit that isn’t enriched by a senior volunteer.

In the past 32 years, RSVP of Schuylkill County volunteers donated more than 1.5 million hours of service to Schuylkill County. Today, more than 350 volunteers generously give their time, talents and skills to help improve the quality of life in the county.

RSVP is unique in that it enrolls only volunteers over the age of 55 who are placed with agencies on an ongoing basis. They do not just volunteer one time, but become part of the culture of the agency where they serve, helping to meet the goals established by that agency. Many RSVP volunteers have served with agencies for 15 or more years with several volunteering at their agency for more than 25 years.

They’re currently looking for some kind hearted individuals to share their gifts with hospice care, literacy tutoring, hospital gift shop and greetings, the APPRISE Telecenter, Meals on Wheels, and errand and medical appointment transportation driving, to name a few.
