MAHANOY CITY — A borough woman was jailed, charged by Mahanoy City police with stabbing a man early Tuesday morning.
Patrolman Charles Kovalewski said Marissa A. Garcia, whose age was not available, was charged with one felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor offense each of simple assault and disorderly conduct.
Garcia was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail
Kovalewski said the charges stem from an incident about 2:10 a.m. at the woman’s home at 39 W. Spruce St.
Kovalewski said he received two calls from the address, one about 12:25 a.m. and the other about 1:30 a.m., from Kenneth VanHorn, who reported he thought there was going to be a problem with Garcia, his child’s mother.
Kovalewski said he sat in a nearby alley and saw VanHorn come onto his porch and light a cigarette but when he tried to re-enter the home, Garcia had locked him out. After he knocked on the door, Garcia unlocked it, allowing the man back inside.
A time later, Kovalewski said, Garcia called police reporting VanHorn smashed her television set and put his hands on her.
At the scene, the officer said Garcia had no marks on her and was told the most VanHorn could be charged with was harassment.
Kovalewski said that about 2:10 a.m. he was called to 107 W. Spruce St. for a report of a stabbing and found VanHorn with a one-inch long laceration to his right shoulder.
VanHorn reported he was upstairs and, while walking down the steps, Garcia met him and swung her arm with a pair of scissors in her hand, hitting him in the shoulder. Garcia then ran from the house and VanHorn said he went to a neighbor’s house to call for help, leaving a trail of blood as he went.
VanHorn was treated on scene by Mahanoy City EMS and refused transport to a hospital by ambulance. The man later was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street by private vehicle for treatment, the officer said.
Kovalewski said the call reporting the stabbing was the third call in a short period of time and resulted in police from Frackville responding along with Shenandoah ALS.
Garcia will now have to answer to the charges against her before Kilker in his Shenandoah courtroom.
