PennDOT plans road work

The state Department of Transportation maintenance personnel will be out in force this week doing pothole patching, crack sealing and shoulder work/widening in six municipalities in the county.

That work will be done in Union, Butler, Mahanoy, Hegins and East Norwegian townships and in Pottsville. All of the work will start Monday and be completed Feb. 29. Motorists will notice lane restrictions in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The following work will occur:

• Pothole patching will occur in Union Township on Everts Flats between Ringtown and Nuremberg.

• Crack sealing will take place in Butler and Mahanoy townships and Pottsville. In Butler, work will take place on Interstate 81 between exit 116 (PA 901) and exit 119 (Highridge Park.) Those driving on I-81 through Mahanoy Township will notice the work being done between exit 124 (Frackville) and exit 131 (PA 54). In Pottsville, the crack sealing will occur on Route 309 between 12th and Centre streets.

• Shoulder widening is scheduled for Hegins and East Norwegian townships. On Route 125 between Hegins and Joliett, the work will occur. In Pottsville, the PennDOT workers will be out on Route 61 between Saint Clair and Pottsville.
