The $225,000 Cash 5 lottery ticket sold Feb. 15, 2015, at McMullen’s Market in New Philadelphia was not turned in to the Pennsylvania Lottery.
“Unfortunately, that Cash 5 prize did expire,” Gary Miller, director of public relations for the Pennsylvania Lottery, said Friday.
Deadline to turn in the ticket was Feb. 12. The winning numbers were 3-7-12-26-27. Federal withholding taxes were required to be paid on the ticket.
“It’s sad for the winner, but it’s good news for older Pennsylvanians,” he said.
The money will remain in the lottery fund and be used for programs for older Pennsylvania residents.
Miller said he was surprised the ticket was not turned in. He stressed the importance of keeping the ticket in a safe place and looking at it after the drawing.
“It’s so important for players to check every ticket every time,” he said.
