Man arrested

on drug charges

MAHANOY CITY — A 21-year-old Mahanoy Plane man was arrested by Mahanoy City police on drug charges stemming from an incident about 5:15 a.m. Feb. 4 in the 200 block of East Centre Street.

Police said Jelani A. Aguayo, 2424 Main St., was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized use or transfer of registration, registration and Certificate of Title required, driving without insurance and driving a vehicle without an official Certificate of Inspection.

Police said officers stopped a vehicle driven by Aguayo for not having a valid inspection sticker and learned the license plate was registered to a vehicle and that the vehicle he was driving did not have insurance.

During the stop, police said, they also found a small amount of marijuana.

Man charged for

having tobacco

WILLIAMSTOWN — An 18-year-old Williamstown man was charged by state police at Lykens for possessing tobacco on school property after an incident about 9:30 a.m. Feb. 11 at Williams Valley High School in Williams Township, Dauphin County.

Police said an investigation determined that Charles Girard had tobacco on the property while school was in session.

The tobacco was found during a search by a police canine, police said, adding that Girard will now have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Rebecca Margerum, Elizabethville.

Man charged for

firearms violations

TAMAQUA — State police at Frackville charged a 28-year-old Mahanoy City man with firearms violations after an incident at Ed’s Sports Shop in Tamaqua on June 23.

Police said they obtained a felony arrest warrant for William W. Skeans on Feb. 11 for violating the Firearms Act during an attempted transaction at the business.

On Tuesday, Skeans was taken into custody, arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $20,000 bail.

He will now have to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, police said.

Dollar store theft

leads to charges

WILLIAMSTOWN — A Tower City man was charged with retail theft by state police at Lykens after an incident about noon Jan. 31 at the Dollar General store along Route 209 in Williams Township, Dauphin County.

Police said Jordan Deiter will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Rebecca Margerum, Elizabethville.

Police said Deiter was charged with walking out of the store without paying for merchandise.

DUI checkpoints

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols will be conducted now through Feb. 29 on Routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 1008, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.

Travelersare reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 1-888-UNDER21, to report underage drinking.

The North Central PA Regional DUI Enforcement Program has reported 28 vehicles were contacted and detained during a Roving DUI Patrol conducted Feb. 7 by four officers from four departments.

There were four drivers tested for DUI resulting in one DUI arrest. The officers also made five other traffic arrests, eight criminal arrests and issued one seat belt citation and 24 warning notices.

Man not injured

in I-78 accident

HAMBURG — A 26-year-old Auburn man escaped injury when the 2005 Ford Taurus he was driving crashed about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of Interstate 78, at mile marker 38.4 in Greenwich Township, Berks County.

State police at Hamburg said Daniel P. Moffett was driving west too fast for conditions around a right curve when he became distracted looking at his cell phone. The man drove into the center median, struck the concrete barrier and then traveled across both westbound lanes before hitting a guide rail on the north side of the road and coming to a stop.

Police said that Moffett will be cited for careless driving as a result of the crash.

Police investigate

2-vehicle crash

LYKENS — A crash that occurred at North Church Street and Snyder Alley about 12:05 p.m. Monday in Washington Township, Dauphin County, was investigated by state police at Lykens.

Police said Ashley J. McDade, 18, of Lykens, was driving a 1999 Ford Escort on Snyder and stopped for a stop sign at the intersection. The woman then proceeded through the intersection and collided with a 2008 Jeep Liberty being driven north on North Church Street by Drew A. Gunderman, 26, of Elizabethville.

Police said McDade suffered minor injuries while Gunderman and his passenger — Alma L. Gunderman, 80, of Elizabethville — were not hurt.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene and McDade will be cited for duties at a stop sign as a result of the crash.

2 not injured

in I-81 collision

FRACKVILLE — Two people escaped injury when their vehicles collided about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81, at the Route 61 interchange in West Mahanoy Township.

State police at Frackville said Ronald E. Williams, 59, of Mountaintop, was driving a 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer in the right lane when he changed into the left lane and struck a 2008 Toyota Sequoia driven by Neal S. Khanna, 22, of Shamokin.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.

Tremont man

charged in theft

TREMONT — Tremont Police charged a 37-year-old borough man after an incident about 8:45 p.m. Feb. 9 at 14 S. Crescent St..

Police said Jason M. Frew, 4 S. Crescent St., will have to answer before Magisterial District Judge David Rossi, Tremont, on charges of retail theft.

Police charged Frew with stealing a tube of Fixodent denture cream valued at $2.35 from the Family Dollar store and the exiting the business without paying.

scattering rubbish

TREMONT — A 29-year-old man was cited by Tremont Police after an incident Wednesday on West Centre Street in Frailey Township.

Police said Brett R. Reed, 15 E. Main St., was charged with scattering rubbish and will now have to answer before Magisterial District Judge David Rossi, Tremont.

Police charged Reed with depositing two garbage bags containing household trash next to a utility pole without permission.

Man charged after

argument in car

MAHANOY CITY — Mahanoy City police charged a 30-year-old borough man in connection with an incident that occurred about 9:15 a.m. Feb. 11 on West South Street.

Police said Joshua D. Joseph, 119 E. Pine St., was charged with recklessly endangering another person and harassment and will have to answer before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.

Police said Joseph was in a car driven by a woman when the two began to argue. The argument turned physical with Joseph hitting her on the head, trying to sit on her lap while she was driving and trying to push her out of the vehicle.

The charges against Joseph were filed with Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.
