Thief steals cash

from vehicle

Pottsville police are investigating a theft from a vehicle that was reported to their department about 1 p.m. Saturday, shortly after it occurred.

Police said officers were told a white man wearing a dark coat with blue and white stripes on the sleeves stole money from a vehicle parked on Logan Alley, to the rear of 102 N. Centre St.

An immediate search of the area was conducted by no one matching the description was located, police said.

Police said the victim, a 53-year-old Port Carbon woman, reported she had been loading her vehicle and it had been unlocked while she was going back and forth from the building to the car.

During that time, the woman said, she walked down the rear steps of the business, looked out a window at her Ford Expedition and saw the man inside the passenger’s side.

The woman said she yelled but the man fled with cash in his hand, police reported. The woman said that cash was taken from her wallet that was sitting on top of a console in the vehicle.

Police said the man fled the area north on Logan Alley and then west through the Arch Street parking lot.

The woman lost sight of the man after he went through the lot but said his coat was a parka/ski jacket and that the man was also wearing a knit hat and large, thick glasses, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the crime is asked to call Patrolman Grant Yoder at 570-622-1234, ext. 163.

Frackville man

turns self in

FRACKVILLE — Frackville police reported being called to the office of Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale on Monday for a report of a man who wanted to surrender to authorities.

Police said Allen Zummerman, Frackville, turned himself in on a warrant stemming from an incident in the 200 block of North Nice Street, Frackville. Officers were called for a report of someone being inside a home without permission.

The investigation determined that Zimmerman unlawfully entered the residence and refused to leave after several warnings. While in the residence, he took a cellphone belonging to another person and made threats to the resident with a knife, police said.

Zimmerman was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, theft, terroristic threats, harassment, disorderly conduct, and loitering and prowling at night.

Police said Zimmerman was arraigned by Hale and released on $30,000 unsecured bail.

Conflict escalates

to assault charge

FRACKVILLE — A borough man was jailed after being arrested by Frackville police stemming from a recent incident.

Police said they received a reported that Addison Hummel assaulted another person after they asked him about using controlled substances.

The question was asked after the person heard “pro war” music and Hummel yelling “Afghanistan bring the heroin” on the telephone.

Police said Hummel then became violent, punching and choking the victim and causing redness and bruising.

Hummel was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment, arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $10,000 straight cash bail, police said.
