McADOO — An unconscious man rescued from a smoke-filled apartment in the borough Saturday afternoon has been identified as Willam Tizekker, 72, McAdoo Fire Chief Robert Leshko said Tuesday.
Firefighters pulled Tizekker from his apartment at 10 N. Kennedy Drive, gave him oxygen on the street and revived him on the ambulance trip to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.
On Monday, he was transferred to the burn unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown, where Leshko said he is improving.
Leshko and state police fire marshals John F. Burns and Joseph Hall returned to the apartment house on Monday and determined that the fire was accidental.
The fire marshals want to question Tizekker before settling on the exact cause, Leshko said.
Fire in the apartment building displaced eight other people from three families.
