Officer promoted
A promotion ceremony was held June 1 in Baltimore, Maryland, to promote Kevin R. Grickis to the rank of chief warrant officer 3 in the Coast Guard.
Grickis has served on active duty in the USCG for nearly 15 years and is stationed at the Surface Forces Logistics Center in Baltimore.
Grickis also received the esteemed Coast Guard Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Award for Excellence in 2015. This award recognizes individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to Coast Guard operations in the fields of financial management, comptrollership, acquisition, procurement and logistics.
CWO Grickis, (SFLC-ALD), Curtis Bay, Maryland, served as team leader in the funds execution section at SFLC, where he oversaw the execution of a $400 million annual OE budget that supported the depot level maintenance needs of the entire Coast Guard surface fleet.
He made sweeping changes that greatly improved the commitment, obligation and billing process for yard project orders, reducing the closeout timeline from more than six months to less than two months. This effort allowed SFLC to reallocate more than $1.5 million to critical maintenance projects.
These changes also allowed the SFLC to reduce processing time for project change requests from several weeks to three business days, resulting in the prompt resolution of 12 overages valued at $24 million.
Grickis overhauled the SFLC Open Obligation Validation program that ensured timely validation of thousands of documents valued at more than $200 million.
Formerly of the Auburn area, Grickis is a son of Richard and Susan Grickis and a 2001 graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School.
