ORWIGSBURG — A Palo Alto man is headed to Schuylkill County Court after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday on charges he stole an item in March from a North Manheim Township adult book store.

Joshua C. Cahill, 20, of 225 W. Savory St., faces charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property. Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier bound over both charges for court after Cahill waived his right to the hearing.

State police at Schuylkill Haven allege Cahill stole a bottle of oil, valued at $24.99, about 10 p.m. March 10 from the store on Route 61.

The store manager and another employee recognized Cahill as the thief, police said.

Police said Cahill has one prior arrest for retail theft.

Cahill is free on bail with electronic monitoring pending further court proceedings.

Other defendants whose cases Ferrier considered on Tuesday, the charges against each one and the judge’s dispositions of the matters included:

Keith D. Benjamin, 32, of 330 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven; possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia; right to preliminary hearing waived, charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana withdrawn, other charge bound over for court.

Melissa L. Fry, 44, of 683 E. Second Mountain Road, Schuylkill Haven; four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, two of possession of a controlled substance and one each of driving under the influence, possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving without a license, speeding and disregarding traffic lane; right to preliminary hearing waived, both counts of possession of a controlled substance withdrawn, other charges bound over for court.

Sue E. Hull, 36, of 326 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven; DUI and careless driving; right to preliminary hearing waived, charges bound over for court.

Matthew J. Lascala, 23, of 216 Schwartz Valley Road, Schuylkill Haven; DUI, driving under suspension, failure to keep right, disregarding traffic lane and careless driving; right to preliminary hearing waived, charge of driving under suspension withdrawn, other charges bound over for court.

Chad Weaver, 18, of 318 Lime Kiln Drive, Andreas; two counts of harassment; right to preliminary hearing waived, charges bound over for court.

Douglas M. Whiteash, 27, of 39 Woods Creek Drive, Schuylkill Haven; DUI, driving under suspension-DUI related, careless driving, violation of restrictions of alcoholic beverages and operating vehicle without valid inspection; right to preliminary hearing waived, charge of driving under suspension-DUI related withdrawn, other charges bound over for court.

On May 10, Ferrier ordered all charges held for court against Darius L. Linton, 28, of 557 Gordon St., Reading. Linton is charged with two counts each of simple assault and driving under suspension and one each of aggravated assault and harassment.
