SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Two people are facing charges after a methamphetamine lab was discovered inside a borough home Monday morning.
Schuylkill Haven police Sgt. Glenn Firing said the events leading up to the discovery began about 8:30 a.m. when Patrolman Vincent McDonald was called for a report of a suspicious man in the backyard of a residence.
At the scene, McDonald found Sean Deibert confused and disoriented, prompting the officer to have the man evaluated, Firing said. Deibert was evaluated by Schuylkill EMS and then taken to an area hospital.
Firing said McDonald followed up on the incident by going to the home of Deibert at 96 McKinley St. and speaking with someone inside.
During the course of the investigation, Firing said that McDonald determined there were children living in the home but they were not there at the time. Those children were safely with another family member, Firing said.
At the scene, McDonald and Chief Jeffrey Walcott were informed about a methamphetamine lab in the basement of the home. Acting on this information, Firing said a state police Forensics Services Unit responded to the house and conducted a search of the property for materials and evidence of the manufacturing of methamphetamine.
During a search of the basement, Firing said the forensics team found various items including Drano, lithium battery strips, Zippo lighter fluid and a white container with a white solid and white liquid substance inside.
All of the items found are materials used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, he added.
Firing said that based on the items found inside the home and the investigation leading up to that discovery, an arrest warrant was obtained for Deibert charging him with manufacture of methamphetamine and endangering the welfare of children.
Another person — Ashley Janowski — is facing charges of endangering the welfare of children as a result of the incident.
The charges against both were filed with Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg.
