n Auburn: An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Auburn Ambulance building, Front Street. People 17 and older (16 with parental consent), weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health are urged to donate blood. n Fountain Springs: The North Schuylkill Elementary Band and high school jazz ensembles concert will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the high school auditorium. The high school spring band concert will be at 7 p.m. Thursday. Donations will be accepted at the door for both concerts.

n Frackville: The Frackville Business and Professional Association is accepting applications for its 2016 scholarship program. Seniors who live in the 17931 zip code are invited to apply for scholarships in the amount of $150 each. Two scholarships will be awarded. Applications and program details are available at www.fbpa.org or at the Frackville Free Public Library. Applications must be postmarked no later than May 25.

n Mahanoy City: The Mahanoy City Elks Lodge will stage a breaded pork chop dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the lodge, 135 E. Centre St. The cost is $9. People may eat at the lodge or take meals out. Walk-ins are welcome. For more information, call 570-573-2649.

n Ringtown: The annual Ascension Day service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the historic Old White Church, 189 Cemetery Hill Road. The Rev. William Worley, Pennsylvania Southeast conference minister for the United Church of Christ, will be the speaker. A covered dish luncheon will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 106 W. n Shenandoah: Andy Ulicny will speak about Eastern European genealogy at 6 p.m. Tuesday during the meeting of the Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society at the history center, 201 S. Main St. The event is free, refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

n Shenandoah: The Diakon Senior Community Center, 116 N. Main St., will have a session on the importance of breakfast at 9 a.m. Tuesday, call 570-462-1965. There is no charge. The Diakon senior community centers in the county, according to a release, are inviting the public to breakfast and to hear about the value of the meal. Diakon will have the breakfast at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Tremont center, 139 Clay St., call 570-695-3500; May 10 at the senior community center at 138 W. Centre St. in Mahanoy City, call 570-773-0738. There will also be a public breakfast at 9 a.m. May 17 at the center in Pottsville, 201 N. Centre St. Call 570-628-3513.

n Tamaqua: The annual “Prom Promise” week is May 2-6 at Tamaqua Area High School. The goal, according to a release, is to raise student awareness regarding the dangers of drinking and driving, especially during prom season. The following events are planned: Monday, Red Ribbon Day, during which red ribbons will be tied to vehicles to serve as a reminder not to drink and drive; Tuesday, Simulation Day, during which junior and senior physical education classes will “simulate” impaired driving by wearing special goggles and driving golf carts in their classes; Wednesday, Awareness Day, in which faculty and staff will read messages over the announcements between periods encouraging students to not drink and drive and seniors will attend an assembly sponsored by the Tamaqua Police Department; Thursday, Key Day, during which students attending the prom will be encouraged to sign a key in the lobby pledging not to drink and drive and students’ names will be entered into drawing for a gas card; Friday, Grim Reaper, in which TASGA officers will be excused from classes and select students from study halls to symbolically die, having their faces painted and remaining silent for the remainder of the day.

n William Penn: The William Penn Fire Company will sponsor a cheesesteak dinner beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $8 per platter. To order or for free local delivery, call 570-462-0338.
