Schuylkill County’s Children & Youth agency is getting ready for the move to its new home across the street. The county commissioners approved a moving services contract Wednesday with Pottsville Moving & Storage Co., Pottsville, at $119 per hour. The cap is for about 25 hours, Mark Scarbinsky, county administrator, said.
Children & Youth currently shares the county Human Services building at 410 N. Centre St. with the Election Bureau and other county departments. The county acquired the new building at 324 N. Centre St. and two parking lots for $740,000 back in January 2012.
Renovation contracts were awarded in April 2015. The total cost for renovations is about $1.9 million. The work is nearly complete and the county hopes to have an occupancy permit by the end of the month, Scarbinsky said. Pottsville Moving & Storage Co. will then start moving the agency to its new location.
In other news, the county’s adult probation office has agreed to a new contract with Motorola Solutions Inc. for two mobile two-way radios at $8,187.50 each and four portable two-way radios at $7,015 each. The agreement is for a year starting Feb. 1.
Meanwhile, the county sheriff’s office has entered into a lease/purchase agreement for a prisoner transport van from New Holland Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram, New Holland. The vehicle is a 2016 Dodge Promaster 3500. The five-year lease through the state COSTARS discount program is $53,187.51. Annual payments are $11,864.27 with a $1 buyout in the fifth year.
Administered by the state Department of General Services, the COSTARS program allows municipalities, school districts and other government entities to purchase materials from COSTARS approved companies without incurring the costs involved in putting a project out for bid.
The commissioners also authorized the endorsement of the following as executive board members of the Schuylkill County Fire Chiefs Association: Frank Zangari, Girardville; Dave Sattizahn, Pine Grove; Jason Witmier, Pottsville; John Matz, Deer Lake/West Brunswick; Gary Witmier, Pottsville; and Scott Krater, Port Carbon.
The commissioners also authorized the following as advisory board members to the association: Jack Messner, Pottsville; John Kellman, Pottsville; Art Connely, Tamaqua; and Glenn Sattizahn, Schuylkill Haven.
