issued for mother
LEBANON — Police in Lebanon County are looking for a Pottsville woman who failed to return her son to his father last month.
Lebanon City Police Capt. Todd Breiner said the department filed charges of concealing the whereabouts of child against Tiffany Mellott, 27, on Monday.
Breiner said that Mellot was provided visitation with her 7-year-old son but failed to return the child to his father as required on March 29.
The child’s father has full custody of the boy, Breiner said, adding that Mellott is refusing to divulge her location to family members or police.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Mellot and anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Lebanon City police at 717-272-6211.
Hazleton man
jailed for drugs
SHENANDOAH — A Hazleton man was jailed after being arrested by Shenandoah police Wednesday on drug charges.
Police said Ramon Colon, 40, of 177 N. Laurel St., was arraigned on one felony count of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was then committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $250,000 cash bail set by Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville.
Police said that about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday Colon sold six bricks of heroin to an undercover state police trooper for $500 in the area of 600 W. Centre St.
At the time he was taken into custody, police said, Colon was found with 288 bags containing an off white powder that field tested positive for heroin. In addition, police said they found another 50 bags of suspected heroin in the glove compartment of the vehicle Colon was driving.
The man will now have to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.
Woman faces
charges for theft
SAINT CLAIR — Saint Clair police have filed retail theft charges against a Saint Clair woman stemming from an incident at Wal-Mart on Terry Rich Boulevard on March 13.
Police said Kelly Foran, 43, of 312 N. Second St., will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Police said they were called to the business for a report of a theft and through an investigation learned that Foran stolen 77 items valued at $723.99.
Man arrested
for bad checks
SAINT CLAIR — A Reading man was arrested by Saint Clair police for writing checks totaling more than $49,000 on a closed account to a borough business between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30.
Police said Manuel A. Lopez-Olivares, 62, of 209 Keats Drive, was charged Tuesday with nine felony counts of theft by deception and nine misdemeanor counts of bad checks.
The charges against Lopez-Olivares were filed with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Police said Lopez-Olivares wrote nine checks to Miller Distributing, 300 S. Fourth St., totaling $49,462.94 for various merchandise but the checks were unable to be cashed because they were written on a closed, frozen or blocked bank account.
Attempts by the business to obtain payment included sending notice to Lopez-Olivares by Certified Mail but the mail came back refused, police said.
Container turned
in to state police
DELANO — State police at Frackville reported finding items along Interstate 81 in Delano Township in February.
Police said a plastic storage container was found at the southbound off ramp at Exit 133.
The container held personal paperwork and household items, one being a JVC digital camera, police said.
The container was recently turned over to police at the Frackville station. The owner can claim the items by calling state police at Frackville at 570-874-5300.
Man arrested
at traffic stop
ASHLAND — A man was arrested by Ashland police after a traffic stop about 12:20 a.m. March 19 in the 1600 block of West Centre Street.
Police said Shawn P. Shoup, 40, of 223 B St., Girardville, was charged with DUI, illegal turning movements and required signals, not driving on roadways laned for traffic and driving without pregistration and Certificate of Title.
Police said officers pulled over a vehicle driven by Shoup for crossing over a double yellow line and making a turn without using a turn signal and found the man to be under the influence.
Woman charged
with retail theft
SAINT CLAIR — A 37-year-old Shenandoah woman was charged with retail theft by Saint Clair police after an incident at Wal-Mart on Terry Rich Boulevard on March 25.
Police said Sabrina M. Zamudio, of 524 W. Coal St., was charged after she stole merchandise valued at $108 from the store.
The woman will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.
Police investigate
weapon in school
TOWER CITY — State police at Lykens said a juvenile brought a red box knife to the Williams Valley Jr.-Sr. High School and openly displayed it to other students.
The incident occurred at 7:30 a.m. March 22. An investigation continues.
Police did not report if the juvenile was male or female.
