No injuries in
2-car crash on 61
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — No one was injured following a two-car crash at a Route 61 intersection in North Manheim Township on Wednesday, according to state police at Schuylkill Haven.
Doris B. Dawson, 84, of Tomball, Texas, was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion westbound on Route 443, Market Street, at 1:25 p.m. while Richard L. Coller, 55, of Schuylkill Haven, was eastbound at the jughandle across the street from the Freeze on Route 61, police said.
Both vehicles had a green light at the intersection and Dawson failed to see Coller’s 2005 Buick Lacrosse crossing the roadway and attempted to make a left turn, striking Coller’s vehicle, police said.
The left front end of Dawson’s car struck the left side of Coller’s car in the northbound lanes of Route 61. Her car sustained a broken tire rod and was unable to be driven from the scene, and was facing west. Coller’s vehicle remained at the point of impact and was facing east.
Dawson’s car was able to be pushed onto Route 443 in front of the Freeze and northbound traffic was not affected due to the crash, police said.
Meanwhile, the area of Route 443 in front of the Freeze and at the jughandle were temporarily closed due to this part of the intersection being blocked by both vehicles, police said, and traffic was detoured south onto Route 61.
Coller, Dawson and a passenger in Dawson’s car, Carol Rathgeber, 83, of Honeybrook, were not hurt, police report.
Dawson was charged with failing to yield at a left turn.
Fire police assisted with traffic control until the scene was cleared.
